DescriptionFashion drawing attributed to Gertrude Conklin. Pencil and watercolor drawing of a woman in a red formal floor-length evening gown and gold cape. The woman’s hair is styled in an up-do with curls surrounding the temple and remains unpainted. The woman has been depicted with a Caucasian skin-tone and makeup including red lipstick in the same shade as the gown. The red evening gown features a deep V-shaped neckline and an elongated torso with stylized bow at the center waist; the skirt is tapered in at the knee and flared out at the hemline. The woman’s cape features a high collar or hood and a closure at the center neck. The cape obscures the shoulders and upper bodice of the gown. The cape is painted in metallic gold with pattern featuring small red flowers, the cape is edged in brown paint, the brushstrokes suggest Conklin was depicting fur.
