DescriptionPortrait of Captain Ashbel Riley attributed to William Johnston. Riley is shown standing in a relaxed pose with one of his hands in the pocket of his pants under his waistcoat. Through the opening in the wall behind him is a brig on the open waters, a suggestion of Riley's profession as a sea captain. The portrait is in its original frame with a gilt liner.
