DescriptionView of two men on horseback in a field of long grass and wildflowers. The man in front is George Wells Cheney, Sr. Both men appear to be wearing the same outfit, probably a uniform. They are wearing light colored pants, sightly darker colored shirts that have pockets on the front, and Stetson hats. This photograph was probably taken while George served with Troop B of the Connecticut Cavalry in the Mexican Border War (1916), or during his service with the 101st Machine Gun Battalion of the 26th Yankee Division during WWI.

George's obituary, published in the Hartford Courant on February 12, 1965, states that he served with Troop B during the Mexican Border War in 1916 and then with the 101st Machine Gun Battalion of the 26th Division during World War I. Troop B of the Connecticut Cavalry was incorporated into the 101st Battalion.
