DescriptionRectangular sign made of cardboard or pasteboard. It has two holes along the top edge and one hole at the bottom edge, where a string for wearing the sign could be threaded through the brass eyelets. Printed in blue ink on a white background is the text: "WIRE SERVICE / GUILD / Local 222 / THE NEWSPAPER GUILD / AFL, CIO, CLC / ON STRIKE / AGAINST / UNITED PRESS / INTERNATIONAL." The placard was used by Frank Lorenzo, c. 1974.

NotesSubject Note: On March 18, 1974 members of the Hartford office of United Press International (UPI) participated in the Wire Service Guild strike against UPI regarding a national work contract dispute. Members of the local chapter of the Wire Service Guild walked the picket line at the Hartford office of UPI, located at 622 Asylum Avenue.
