DescriptionA full-length portrait of a young woman seated in an upholstered armchair. She wears a dress with a low-cut neckline, a broad collar trimmed with rickrack and lace, and a sash. A striped shawl is on the the chair to the woman's right. A second fringed shawl is on a table at the far right. The woman's feet rest on a cushion or footrest with tassels at the corners. Drapery and a paneled wall or door are in the left background.

NotesTechnique Note: The lower part of the background is a solid tone of black, apparently achieved through a very heavy application of lithographic crayon. A similar use of black is seen in 1996.177.19. (Finlay 11/14/2003)
