NotesSubject Note: On November 17, 2015, CCHAP hosted a reception to celebrate the high artistic achievements of four artists from different communities. Three artists received Connecticut Office of the Arts Fellowships in Folk Arts – Ukrainian pysanky artist Paul Luniw, French Canadian fiddler Daniel Boucher, and Tibetan thangka painter Jampa Tsondue. Additionally, Cambodian court dancer Somaly Hay received a citation from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, state Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, and state Rep. Kathleen McCarty, R-Waterford, for her “dedication to preserving Cambodian dance culture and heritage and joyfully sharing this with so many others.” At this event, attended by the artists, their families, CHS staff and Board members, and many community members, Daniel Boucher gave a demonstration of his Quebecois fiddle playing, and Somaly Hay demonstrated the kbach, hand and arm gestures that form the basis for Cambodian court dance.Additional materials exist in the CCHAP archive for these artists and this event.
