NotesSubject Note: FrancoFest, an extensive series of activities celebrating French heritage in Connecticut, was held in the mid-to late-1990s at a variety of locations around Greater Hartford and central Connecticut. Organized by French Canadian cultural activist Evelyn Sirois, the project involved many organizations with French Canadian and Acadian roots. These groups included L’Union des Franco Americains du Connecticut, the French Social Circle of East Hartford, the Societé St. Jean de Baptiste, L’Alliance Francaise, the French Genealogical Society, St. Anne’s Church on Park St in Hartford and St. Anne's in Bristol, and more. These groups presented exhibits, craft activities, musical concerts, and other events that promoted French language and history. FrancoFest inspired CCHAP to collaborate with Evelyn Sirois to bring the exhibit “Sur Bois: Franco American Woodcarving in New England” to the Institute for Community Research gallery along with French Canadian musical presentations, in 1998.Sources:
