DescriptionThis shoulder patch was worn by Troop 124 at the Connecticut Yankee Council 2001 National Jamboree. It depicts Washington Irving, a famous author. The ground of this patch is done in pale blue embroidery thread, and the edging is done in silver embroidery thread. There is an American flag on the left side of the patch and a crest with an eagle and American flag motif on the right.
Connecticut Yankee Council scouts, leaders, and staff attending the 2001 National Scout Jamboree wore these distinctive council shoulder patches, each designed around the portrait of a famous Connecticut native. Troops made their own name selections and built gateway and Jamboree themes around those people. This set of thirteen patches includes the eleven Jamboree troops, a troop from Westchester Putnam Council, and the Staff shoulder patch, which depicts the 29th Connecticut Volunteers, an all black regiment that served with distinction during the Civil War. The Connecticut Historical Society participated in finding historically accurate representations, and gained authorization for their use when necessary.
