DescriptionPortrait of Rhoda Ann Ensign. She is pictured from the waist up, with her hands folded in front of her. She is wearing a black bodice with a white lace capelet over her shoulders and secured at her neck with a gold pin. Her hair is parted in the center, curled in ringlets on either side of her head, and gathered in the back. She is also wearing a ribbon tied around her head and gathered into a bow at the side of her head. There is also a bow at the back of her head. She is holding a book in her hand, which bears the title "THE / YOUNG LADY'S / OWN BOOK / R. ENSIGN, / 1836."

In the background, she is framed by a red curtain and an open window. Out the window, green trees and what appears to be a rose bush with nine red flowers on it are visible.
