DescriptionHandmade sock doll said to be made by Caroline Wood, late 19th century.

The doll’s body is constructed from light tan knitted stocking material, the head and body are a single tube of knit stocking that has been gathered and tied off at the top, the arms and legs consist of smaller knit stocking tubes sewn to the main body, the appendages all feature a light blue band of embroidery floss to demarcate the doll’s hands and feet. The doll’s eyes and mouth are hand-drawn dots, the eyes are blue and the mouth is red, the facial features are faded. The doll is wearing a hand-sewn romper constructed from pink printed cotton with a bird and flower pattern in blue, pink, and green.
