DescriptionAppliquéd quilt in the Eight of Hearts pattern using deep red, or Turkey red, cotton. The quilt consists of a plain-woven white cotton top, batting, and backing that are joined with a quilted pattern. In a white block at one corner of the top is the inscription "Laura Grant/ Hartford/ Ct./ 1848"; this is hand-stitched in pink thread using a chain stitch. The appliquéd pattern consists of a field of eight-petal flowers surrounded by four arrows; this applique pattern is hand-stitched onto the quilt in alternating rows leaving white squares of the quilt top visible. The quilting pattern consists of a wreath in the plain squares and a flower in the appliqued squares. All four sides of the quilt have a pieced triangular border. Each edge of the quilt has a woven basketweave tape binding.

Condition: The quilt has overall yellowing, plus light stains in the crease lines.
