DescriptionWomans's zouave-influenced bolero vest of black wool, heavily ornamented with gold cording, laid in swirls and arabesques. The cording is worked on the wool with a heavy paper backing, which is covered by the lining fabric. (Similar vests in the Connecticut Historical Society collection reveal this construction.) The armholes are edged in narrow braid. The neckline edge, continuing down the curved front opening and around the bottom, is edged with thick metallic cording. Below the neckline, the cording is additionally ornamented with large gold balls attached by wire loops to form a tasselled effect. The vest is lined with cream-colored satin.
