DescriptionMan's smoking jacket in black wool/cotton faille with a silk dot woven in the rib. The jacket has a shawl collar of black silk satin machine-quilted in a diamond grid pattern. The edges of the collar, center front opening (which is cut away in rounded corners at the bottom), and bottom edge are bound with black wool tape over a narrow border of the black satin. The two-piece coat sleeves end in a four-inch-wide cuff of the quilted satin, bound around the wrist with the wool tape and headed at the top with a strip of black satin. The jacket closes with a pair of toggles attached to ornamental knots made of silk-wrapped cotton cording. There is a breast pocket on the proper right side and a pocket over each hip in front. The tops of these pockets are covered with the quilted black satin in a double-pointed shape, bound with black satin around all edges; the opening edge is additionally bound with the wool tape. The jacket is lined with black silk/cotton satin; it is hand-stitched to the jacket shell.
