DescriptionWoman's white cotton cap. The fabric of the brim and crown is a woven check with corded weft setts every 1/4 inch, and alternating stripes in the warp of twill and plain weave. The 1 5/8-inch-wide ruffle that edges the cap, along with the ties, are plain-woven. Inserted within the seam between the cap crown and the brim is a 1/4-inch-wide strip of fine cotton net; another strip of net insertion surrounds the back of the head. A short strip of net is inserted on the top of the cap, across the 3 1/8-inch-wide brim. The top of the crown is tightly needle gathered, as is the ruffle around the cap. The cap ruffle is not gathered, however, across the center of the brim edge, for about 3 1/2 inches. The ruffles and ties, as well as joins at the insertions, are turned over twice with a very narrow hem.
