DescriptionThis dress is made from a plain-woven, lightweight, tan-colored cashmere. The neckline is wide, with a collar falling over each shoulder. The collar has three points on each side; two of the points fall to the front and back at bustline level (ten inches from the shoulder), while the third extends to the outside of the shoulder (6 1/2 inches from the neckline). The edges of the collar are trimmed with chemical lace. A 1 1/4-inch wide strip of dark brown velvet is knotted at the neckline in a manner similar to a man's tie. The ends of this tie are stitched into the waist of the dress. The front of the bodice has four 1 3/4-inch vertical pleats from the neckline to the waistline. The short sleeves are slightly gathered at the top of the shoulder. A 1/2-inch band of velvet surrounds the sleeve opening, knotted at the outside of the arm. Applied like a flat ruffle to the opening is a square-shaped piece of the dress fabric (7 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches), lined in the velvet. The waistline is accented by a 1 1/4-inch band of the dark brown velvet. The full skirt is made of three panels; it is smooth around the front and sides, and gathered at the center back. A 3 3/4-inch-deep self-fabric ruffle trims the bottom. The dress is fully lined with a white plain-woven cotton fabric. The 3 3/4-inch-deep skirt hem is additionally lined with a blue plain-woven cotton. The center back opening extends sixteen inches and fastens with eight 3/8-inch-diameter enamelled metal buttons, along with a hook and thread eye at the waistline.
