DescriptionSquare medicine bottle originally stored in an apothecary chest owned by Dr. Cyrus Pendleton of Hebron, Conn. Each side of bottle has an inscription. Embossed on front of bottle: "HIRES IMPROVED/ ROOT BEER". Embossed on side: "MAKES FIVE/ GALLONS OF A/ DELICIOUS DRINK". Embossed on back: "MANUFACTURED BY/ THE CHARLES E. HIRES CO.". Embossed on opposite side: "PHILADELPHIA, PA/ U. S. A." Hand-blown glass.
