DescriptionPhotographic facsimiles of letters relating to Silas Deane's secret mission to France during the American Revolution, proving that he was authorized by a Secret Committee of Congress to obtain vessels, munitions, and supplies to be shipped to America, and to receive a commission for these transactions. Letters are dated between 16 November 1775 and 3 July 1777 and are signed by Benjamin Frankin, John Hancock, Stephen Hopkins, the Marquis de Lafayette, and others. Some letters are in French.
