DescriptionGirl's two-piece dress of black and white silk gingham. The bodice (.a) extends below the hips, with the gingham, trimmed with maroon silk, draped across the lower front. The neckline is high and round and is surrounded by a ruff of self-fabric trimmed with maroon silk. The long sleeves end in turn-back cuffs, also trimmed with the maroon silk. Bobbin-type lace extends from the cuffs. The bodice is fitted with vertical darts in front. The bodice opens for seventeen inches down the center back. It fastens with ten buttons that are covered with black/white shot silk. The silk draping the bottom of the bodice is gathered into puffs; it is edged with triangular points of maroon silk and silk gingham. The bodice is lined with white cotton.

The skirt (.b) is pleated into the brown cotton sateen waistband. The bottom of the skirt is bordered with a band of bias self-fabric, flanked by ruffles of pleated self-fabric. A gathered ruffle with trimming of maroon silk is stitched along the bottom edge. The skirt is lined with loosely-woven white cotton. There is an in-seam pocket on the right side. The waistband fastens with a pique button inlaid with abalone.

A bag of fabric scraps accompanies the dress.
