(p. 82)"Foster, Merriam & Co. had a large factory fronting on Cross Street and extending several hundred feet along the tracks of the N.Y., N.H. & H. railroad, in the very heart of Meriden. They are manufacturers of casters, drop handles, furniture trimmings, cabinet hardware and bathroom fittings.
The original founders of the business were Albert Foster, Hiram Foster, Julius Way, Asaph Merriam, Nelson Merriam, all of Meriden, and a Mr. Belden, of New Britain, who formed the first partnership under the name of Foster, Belden & Co., who made casters only. The firm as organized in 1835, was short lived, because the following year, Mr. Belden sold his interest to Asaph and Nelson Merriam. With the departure of Mr. Belden, the name was changed to Foster, Merriam & Co."
