“H. Wales Lines was born in Naugatuck, Conn. on June 3, 1838. He came to Meriden in August 1862. On May 23, 1864, he formed a partnership with his uncle, Charles Perkins, to form Perkins & Lines, a general contracting company for masonry work. When Perkins retired in 1878, the firm of H. Wales Lines & Co. was formed. His partner for the company was H. E. Fairchild.

He was the president and treasurer of The H. Wales Lines Co.; director of the C. F. Monroe Co. of Meriden; director of the Chapin-Stephens Co. of Pine Meadow, Conn.; treasurer and a director of the New Haven Investment Co.; president of the Meriden Machine Tool Co.; and vice-president Meriden Savings Bank. He served three terms as mayor of Meriden from 1877-79.”

The City of Meriden Plan of Conservation & Development Update, Community Character and Historic Resources (2007) lists the house on the Historic Properties Inventory as located at 65 Pleasant Street.
