"With the exception of about eight acres, the land was a gift to the city by the Charles Parker Co., who originally purchased the land from the heirs of William Johnson for reservoir purposes. The land comprising the present Hubbard Park was presented to the city of Meriden by Walter Hubbard, president of the Bradley & Hubbard Mfg. Co., who cared for the park, developed and beautified without expense to the city.
The park is situated west of the city, about one and one-half miles. The founder, perceiving the great natural advantages this land possessed for a public park, asked and received permission from the city authorities to develop that portion belonging to the municipality, and the city has set aside and dedicated this land for a public park (with the reservoir, Lake Merimere, lying between the cliffs and peaks) to which Mr. Hubbard has added many tracts of land."
