DescriptionBirds-eye view of Camp Burnside, a military camp in Annapolis, Maryland. Approximately one hundred tents are arranged in rows in a grid pattern. At the end of each company street is a large arch the the company letter in what appears to evergreen garlands. The central arch contains a five-pointed star and the date "1776". Evergreen trees are interspersed among the tents. In the foreground, soldiers stand in formation with a small band at the left. Laundry hangs on a clothesline in front of a tent at the left. Rifles are stacked in front of three tents at the right. Men, women, and children walk among the soldiers. A covered wagon is in the left foreground. The camp is surrounded by a Virginia split rail fence. Two American flags fly overhead. The dome of the Maryland State Capitol is visible in the distance.
