He was educated at Fordham University and the Grand Seminary in Montreal. He was ordained in 1880 and served as curate in churches in Willimantic and Norwich before serving as pastor in Coventry from 1885 to 1889. He served in Collinsville from 1889 to 1901 and was then transferred to Taftville.
