DescriptionYoung man seated at a desk. He wears a polka dot jacket, vest, tie, celluloid collar, watch chain and a wire pin that spells "Hartford." A pen is behind his ear. He holds a cabinet card portrait photograph of a young woman. An inkwell and a photograph of an actress or dancer in costume are on the desk. Papers are in pigeonholes. Physics, chemistry and natural science textbooks are on the shelf above the desk. A lamp, probably a gaslight, is at the right. A measuring or surveying device, possibly a theodolite, is near the window.
