DescriptionOval studio portrait of a man with a mustache wearing what appears to be a Civil War uniform jacket with sergeant's stripes on the sleeve. He sits in a high-backed armchair.
Object number1985.133.13
InscribedOn verso: "George H. Couche."NotesSubject Note: The man in the photograph is probably the George H. Couch (not Couche) who was served with the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery from May 1861 to September 1865. Couch mustered in as a private and mustered out as a brevet first lieutenant. After the war, Couch lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he owned a shoe shop. The photograph was taken in Danbury, Connecticut.

Date Note: Assuming the subject is George H. Couch, the photograph must have been taken between 1862 and 1864 when Couch held the rank of sergeant in the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery.
