Shortly after George A. Dagon became mayor of East Hartford in 1980, he was instrumental in preserving the Selden Brewer House. A second campaign to fund the restoration of the house took place in 1984.

Subject Note: The Selden Brewer house in East Hartford was built in 1827. At one time it was the home of Agnes Brewer, secretary to Mark Twain. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
