A sign on the roof reads "Cowles Paper Co."A child stands on a loading dock next to a large group of barrels, some containing scrap paper and near pipes that run up the side of the building. A man stands at an open door in the second story beneath a pulley. The brick building with a mansard roof in the right background is the paper company office. Snow is on the ground and icicles hang from some of the roofs. The building is located on Water Street; the Farmington River is directly behind the viewer.
