DescriptionBlack fabric boots, with side lacing, oval toe, and low, stacked heel. The fabric is cotton warp and wool weft in a sateen weave. The boots are seamed up the center front and at the center back. A separate tongue with a rounded end is underneath the lacing. The boots are lined with white plain-woven cotton, cut on the bias; they are bound along the top, opening, and tongue with black silk grosgrain ribbon. The boots retain their original laces, which are black silk tapes with brass tips. The soles are straight, but because the lacing was meant to be on the inside of the ankle, boot ".a" was worn on the right foot, and ".b" was worn on the left. The bottom layer of leather on the stacked heel is nailed on.
