DescriptionThe buildings of Newgate Prison occupy a hill in the center of the composition. The land slopes to the left and distant hills are visible in the background. To the right, another building appears behind a low wall surrounded by pine trees. A figure sketching, probably a self-portrait of the artist, is seated on a rock in the foreground.
