DescriptionPrint depicting the south side of Asylum Street in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. There are two low-rise buildings of more than three stories that are taller than the ones around them. On one, the sign "Hoover Building" can be seen at the top on the right side. Many local businesses are depicted: Bond Stores, a jewelers, Kennedy's Incorporated, Dailys, what is probably the Wooster (a bowling alley and billiards hall), Camera Bar, a barber shop, what is probably Harvey and Lewis (opticians), and a hardware store. Savitt Jewelers is on the opposite side of the street, and can be seen at the far left of the print. There is a flag hanging above the Savitt sign. A lamppost with parking signs appears on the sidewalk in front of Savitt, and there are cars next to the sidewalk. Pedestrians are shown on the street.

In the caption, Welling wrote, "I decided to draw a downtown subject and, as it turns out, my sketch recorded two buildings since demolished. The two tall buildings met with the wreckers ball to make way for a mini-plaza connecting Asylum street [sic] with Society for Savings."
