DescriptionWoman's soft bonnet of purple (now almost completely faded) and black silk woven with a strapwork design interlaced with stripes. The brim is 7 1/4 inches wide at the top. The crown is slightly gathered to the brim. The curtain (or bavolet) is three inches deep at the back of the neck, where it is closely gathered to the crown. The outer edge of the brim is piped, as is the seam between the brim and the crown. The bonnet is wadded with brown cotton. It is lined with plain brown cotton. The outer edge of the brim is faced with an ombre (fading from dark to light) orange and multi-colored striped ribbon, which is sewn together in strips and then cut on the bias. The cream-colored satin-striped silk ribbon ties are pinned in place.
