NotesDate Note: Burton C. Moore's photograph of the "Bowl of Rice" party was published in the Hartford Courant on November 19, 1939. The other stereo views were probably published about the same date.Subject Note: "Bowl of Rice" parties to raise money for civilian casualties of the Japanese invasion of China were popular during the late 1930s. The parties were usually held at Chinese restaurants and the proceeds went to help the war victims. "Bachelor Born," a play by Ian Hay, was presented by the Mark Twain Masquers at the Avery Memorial in December 1939. Alexandra Danilova and the Ballet Russes performed at the Bushnell Memorial several times during the 1930s, including November 1939.
