DescriptionNine schoolchildren, dressed in winter clothing and carrying lunch pails and books, stand on the dirt road outside of a one-room schoolhouse. According to the signpost on the right, the road is on the way to Canaan Valley, which is four miles away, and is just past the intersection of the road to South Sandisfield. A leafless tree stands beside the schoolhouse.

NotesSubject Note: The schoolhouse pictured was the North End or Norton District School, also called the Curtiss Family School at the turn of the twentieth century because all of the students belonged to the Curtiss family. It was located off Doolittle Drive, at the intersection of Wheeler and Barry Hill Roads.
