DescriptionThree men in overalls and caps are working at the right. One man lifts a stone. Another uses a mallet. A pick axe and a sledgehammer lean against a completed section of wall. Behind the wall, two men are plowing a field using a team of horses. A woman is hanging clothes on a clothesline. Two women are hoeing a garden. The wind is blowing. A frame house with dormers, a gambrel roof, and a chimney are in the background surrounded by trees and bushes. A small building, probably a shed, is at the right.

NotesSubject Note: Joe Knoche had a farmhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut, where Mahonri Young also had a summer home.

Technique Note: Plate was not wiped clean before printing, resulting in a faint even tone throughout the image. Traces of foul biting suggest that technique involves etching as well as drypoint. (Finlay 1/23/2002)
