He enlisted and was mustered into the First Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery on May 22, 1861 as a First Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain on November 8, 1861. On January 22, 1863 he was promoted to Major. On May 4, 1865 he resigned. (Ruocco, 04/21/12)
