Object number2012.233.37
InscribedOn verso, upper margin, in black ink, "Richard Green / Aunt Rose husband"; lower right, in pencil, accession numberNotesSubject Note: Richard Green of Suffield enlisted in the Sixteenth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry on July 17 1862 and was mustered in as a first lieutenant on August 24 1862. He resigned on September 30 1862. It is unlikely that this portrait actually represents this Richard Green, since the man in the portrait does not appear to be wearing a lieutenant's uniform and the number on his cap does not appear to be "16." Richard Green of Suffield does not appear to have had a wife named "Rose," and the man in this portrait is identified in an inscription as "Aunt Rose's husband." (Finlay 4/19/2012)
