The brass mat is octagonal and has a pebbled surface.

The red silk pad is plain.

The upper case has a starburst pattern surrounded by an oval within a geometic border. The lower case is undecorated.

Photographs suggest that the couple had four daughters. Photographs of two daughters, Mary Constance Allen and Jane Allen are included in the Connecticut Historical Society collection. A third daughter, Grace, is listed in the 1900 Federal Census. Mary Ann Allen died in 1900. (Ruocco 3/31/2012)
