InscribedOn verso, upper left, in black ink "530"; in pencil and black ink, "An exceedingly fine White Oak on the farm of Dr. Russell near Cedar Hill Cemetery on the New Britain road. It does not show well in thepictue as the wood back of it prevented the light from developing the fine features of the tree. It is at the foot of the side hill west of the Dr's farm house. The lower horizontal limbs of the tree produce branches that grow perpindicular [sic] like separate trees. I know of one other specimen that has this peculiariy which can be found in this collection and is located on the road from Newington to New Britain near an arched bridge."; lower right, in pencil, accession number.NotesSubject Note: The other oak tree photograph to which which Brown alludes in the inscription on this photograph is 1939.16.13.
