CPC / 1987" "Dwr 3" and accession number.NotesSubject Note: General William Orlando Butler (1791-1880) was an American general who fought in the War of 1812 and commanded the United States Army during the Mexican War. He also served two terms in Congress for Kentucky from 1839-1843. Butler was the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, running with Presidential candidate Lewis Cass, in 1848; they lost to Zachary Taylor's ticket. He was born on 19 April 1791 and died on 6 August 1880.
