At first a traditional agricultural fair, the event later included large fiberglass sculptures, stock car racing, and amusement park rides. Subject Note: James C. Shannon was Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut from 1947 to 1948. He became Governor when James L. McConaughy died on March 7, 1948. He was unsuccessful in his bid for re-election and left office on January 5, 1949. (Finlay 2/18/2012)
