DescriptionBust-length silhouette of a young child, facing left
Object number2008.79.3
InscribedOn recto, lower margin, in pencil, "Child of Samuel & Prudence S. Benton"NotesSubject Note: Prudence Seymour of Hartford was born 3 April 1755 and married Samuel Benton on 22 November 1772. The couple had one child, Sally (Sarah) Benton, apparently born 27 April 1794. Sally married David North in 1814. (Information from Ancestry Library, derived from Lucius Barbour, Early Families of Hartford) Date Note: The Prudence and Samuel Benton referenced above are the only couple with those names to appear in records in Ancestry Library. It therefore seems likely that the silhouettes 2008.79.1-.3 represent this couple and their daughter, although stylistically the silhouettes do not appear to be this early. (Finlay 8/30/2010)
