DescriptionThree story building with three dormers in gambrel roof with fishscale roofing. Several windows with louvered shutters along second story. Bottom story appears to be commercial space, with doorways and windows. A sign reads, "D. GLOTZER LADIES / AND / GENTS / TAILOR AND FURRIER". Partially visible at left is a brick building. Wood fencing runs along both sides of the building. At right is a tree, also a utility pole. In foreground, a sidewalk, and curbing running next to the street. An advertising sign on the building reads, "Lord / Salisbury / 20 for 15 [cents] / OVAL / FOIL / PACKAGE / 100% TURKISH CIGARETTES".
Object number2000.171.181
InscribedOn verso, in pencil: in upper left corner, "Main St / N / W [with a circle around the letter] / 8 [with a circle around the number]"; in center, "2 3/4 cols / Courant" and in a different hand, "Windsor ave / and Seyms st"; in bottom right corner, "Gift of Horace B. Clark no date". Accession number inscribed in pencil.NotesDate Note: Photograph taken on Windsor Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. Dated 1915-1917 because the business was only in this location in 1915, and the building appears to be abandoned in the photograph.

Subject Note: David Glotzer was listed in the Hartford City Directory of 1915 as being in business at 117 Windsor Avenue. For many years his business moved several times, and he was listed at different times as a tailor, and/or a furrier.

Historical Note: This is probably an image from the Hartford Courant, because "Courant" is written on the back, and the donor, Horace B. Clark, worked for the Hartford Courant for many years.
