DescriptionSpring type scale of metal, painted black, with face painted cream with black lettering and gold decoration. Scale consists of several pieces of metal bolted together. The base has a lip, which then rises to a plateau, where the main body of the scale is attached. The body is rectangular, except that it slants backwards in the front, and has an arched top. The face of the scale is round, with rounded edges, and is attached in the front, against the area which slants back and upwards. It is decorated with gold and black on the molded rounded edge. The scale reads to 24 pounds, and is divided into ounces. It has the following inscription: "COLUMBIA FAMILY SCALE / 24 POUNDS BY OZS. / WARRANTED / LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK / NEW BRITAIN, CONN., U.S.A."
The platform is attached to the scale mechanism inside the body, and is supported by a metal column which extends upwards through the arched top of the body. There is a metal turn button which allows accurate weighting by turning the needle to zero. The platform itself is attached to the column by a screw, and has a circular indentation around the screw top, following with another circular indentation, concentric to the first, connected by four lines. This circle arrangement falls in the center of a square indentation which follows the shape of the platform, which is connected to the circular forms by four straight lines.
