NotesSubject Note: The orignal Connecticut Valley Railroad from Hartford to Saybrook Point made its first run on July 29, 1871. The railroad fell on hard times in the mid-20th century and closed in 1961.. The Valley Railroad Company resumed service from Essex to Deep River as a tourist attraction in 1971 with its first run on July 29, the 100th anniversary of the first run of the original railroad. It continues in operation as of 2012 and is commonly known as the Essex Steam Train. (Finlay 3/3/2012)
