DescriptionThe engraved, brass dial is square with an arched top; the dial would have been silvered originally. The top edge of the dial arch is engraved with scrolled leaves in an arch. The center of the dial arch is engraved "Israel Newton"; above this is a small flower, and below is an abstract, baroque-style embellishment flanked by a semicircular hill with three trees emerging from it. Below this is engraved "NORWICH". The middle of the dial plate is engraved with a chapter ring consisting of a ring of Roman numerals, inside a ring of minute gradations, inside a ring of Arabic numbers from one to sixty in increments of five. In the center of the chapter ring is a hole for an arbor; this is surrounded by four evenly spaced holes for screws to attach the dial to the works. Above the center hole is a recessed seconds dial. Below the hole is an arched, recessed calendar dial (the dial itself is missing). Vines, leaves, and flowers are engraved at the corners of the dial plate and inside the chapter ring.

Condition: The dial is separated from a clock works and a clock case. The calendar dial is missing. The silver coating on the surface of the dial has worn off.
