DescriptionAlbum quilt, or tied comforter, consisting of a pieced top, thick batting, and a white plain-woven cotton backing; the three layers are joined with hand-tied, white yarn tied. The top consists of sixteen separate blocks; all but the lower right block are appliqued with a different Connecticut-related scene or symbol. Each of the fifteen appliqued blocks are labeled with the name of a local elementary school. The lower right block is embroidered in red yarn with the inscription "Made by/ Connecticut Schools/ Assembled by the/ Greater Hartford Quilt Guild/ 16 March 1991/ For the Education Department/ of/ The Connecticut/ Historical Society". Each of the blocks are separated by a grid of red, plain-woven cotton; the hand-tied yarn is located on this grid. The blocks are hand-stitched and machine-stitched, then machine-stitched together.

The squares for the quilt were made by children from several schools across Connecticut. The participating schools were: East Windsor Intermediate School of Broad Brook; Charles Wright School of Wethersfield; Crystal Lake School of Ellington; Daisy Ingraham School of Westbrook; Kennelly School of Hartford; Long Ridge School of Stamford; St. Hedwig School of Union City; Teresa Mulvey School of Westport; Town Hill School of Lakeville; Voluntown Elementary School of Voluntown; Woodstock Public School of Woodstock; and Mary Aiken School of West Hartford. (Hudson 8/8/2006)The object file contains: a page with the inscriptions on each quilt square, and a key with the location of each square on the quilt; a notebook of descriptions of quilt squares prepared by contributing schools; a list from each participating school with the names of the children who helped make each square; a brochure for the Connecticut Quilting Bee; a color photo of of quilt being assembled; and copies of articles advertising or describing the Connecticut Quilting Bee.
