NotesHistorical Note: According to museum records, this brick is from the "House of Hope" or Fort "Good Hope", which was the first European settlement in Connecticut. It was erected by the Dutch in 1633, on the land later called Dutch Point. In 1653, Captain John Underhill seized the fort for the English, and the following year, Hartford occupied the site. (Hudson 5/10/2006)

Historical Note: According to Hughes and Allen, Connecticut Place Names (1976), p. 236, "the elevated solid ground upon which stood the Dutch 'House of Hope' has been swept away by the river. (Hudson 5/10/2006)
