Stephen Waite
American, 1832 - 1906
Biography: Stephen H. Waite was born about 1832 in Massachusetts. As a young man he is said to have been the friend of Emerson, Whittier, and Theodore Parker. In 1862, he appears in the Hartford City Directory as an artist, but in 1863, he opened a photography studio at 271 Main Street in Hartford. He remained in business at that address until 1879. He was succeeded in his Hartford photography business by Charles Stuart. He died in Kansas City, Kansas in 1906, and had apparently been working as a photographer in that city for some time before his retirement and death.
