Nathan Gorham
American, 1751 - 1839
Biography: Nathan Gorham was born in Stratford, Connecticut, in 1751 and baptized in August of that year. He was the son of Joseph and Hannah Gorham of Stratford, Connecticut. Before the American Revolution, Nathan Gorham and John Barlow sailed together in the West India Trade; they discontinued business when the war broke out, for fear of being captured by a British warship. Shortly later, Barlow obtained command of an American privateer sailing from Boston, and he engaged Nathan Gorham as his mate and sail maker. Nathan Gorham married Sarah (Sally) Beers (about 1761-1835). They had at least one daughter, Tryphena Gorham (Mrs. Joel McEwen) (about 1786-1854). Nathan Gorham died 28 May 1839 at age 88.
