Captain George Child

Biography: Captain George Child was born in Warren, Rhode Island on 18 September 1803. He was the tenth and youngest child of Captain Haile Child and his wife Amy Kinnicut. Child married Sarah Maria Beverley of Providence, Rhode Island. George and Sarah had six children: Frances Virginia; George Henry; Edwin Forest; Thomas Treusdell; Jane Beverly; and William Comstock. George Child was captain of the steamboat Lexington, and was killed when it burned on Long Island Sound on 13 January 1840.
